Learning Math can be FUN!

With over 35 years experience teaching math, I have successfully taught students from third grade through college calculus. I enjoy math, and my students are able to understand it in a one-to-one teaching environment. During this time of closed schools, it is difficult for students to understand and adapt to this new way of learning. Many teachers are overwhelmed as they had to change their teaching methods with just a couple of months remaining in the school year. I have been teaching online classes at Forsyth Tech. for some time. Transfering this experience to one-on-one tutoring gives me the opportunity to help students that want to end the school year successfully. Let me help you improve your understanding with one-on-one tutoring.

Math is one of my top subjects! Math in general is most certainly my strongest subject, as I completed through AP Calculus in High School with no less than a B in every class (and that was only Geometry and Statistics, because of the more studious and less logical aspects of them). Overall, any math subject, I am the guy to call (trust me all of my friends do) and I will be able to teach it to you. I can thoroughly break problems down and illustrate various check lists to make sure you're on the right path.

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. This is because between high school, my extra curriculars (captain of the drumline for three years and a captain of the lacrosse team for three years), and my parents, my life was completely structured for me, so what little free time I had was easy to budget, this is not the case in high school. Experienced math tutor.

I have been tutoring at Forsyth Technical Community College since September 2008. I work on average, over the 5 years, 15 hours a week, but now working 21 hours a week since I am now out of school. I have done private tutoring for about 3 years now, either with people from met from school or from tutoring. I got a BS in both Mathematics and Computer Science in May of 2013. Math and computers have always been my strength, and when getting my degree, I would always help my friends in their classes.
It depends on the student and what they are doing. If all they need is practice, then I will let the student do all of the work, interjecting only to give advice or to correct a mistake if the student does not catch it themselves. If needed, I will work out similar problems. If the student needs help understanding, I first go in depth why it works and why you do what you do. I then ... read more

I have a passion for teaching and believe that all children should be given the opportunity to be successful. I have a sincere commitment to teaching and developing the highest potential of my students. I am calm, resourceful, intuitive, dependable and flexible. I am understanding, patient and enthusiastic when working with students. I have a great rapport with my students and prefer to deliver content through modeling and hands on activities. Students tend to make a connection between content knowledge and previous experiences. An essential part of a student's understanding is that a student learns how to learn.

As a graduate with an engineering related BS degree from North Carolina State University, my background intense in the maths and sciences. I consider myself a facilitator of information more than a teacher. Students must be accountable for their own learning. In math and science, it is important that students know how to apply knowledge rather than merely memorize information. In that regard, it is my job to make sure that students understand the core concepts of the material ... read more

I am patient but firm. In order to be a success in the business world, one must be able to write and speak the English language correctly. If the student knows English, everything else in general business can be taught. Thus, in a tutoring environment, I try to make learning fun and make a game out of speaking and writing proper English. I believe that every child can learn even those that are handicapped. My mother was a specialist in teaching trainable children and got them jobs after graduation. Being around children with IQ's around 60 gave me special insight and understanding.
