My comments on tutoring Science : Received a bachelor of science degree in environmental resource management. I have taken and had to learn a variety of different sciences at the college level in order to earn my degree.

I prefer to keep students excited about what they are supposed to be learning. Naturally I have devoted my career to learning the facts and concepts that I am supposed to relay, so I will be excited, and I want them to be excited. Enthusiasm can go as far as the facts you are teaching. People that are engaging get their point across, and thats how I approach teaching.
Since graduating from college I have been learning more and more about the natural world around us. Math Can be Fun!

My teaching style is for the student to be methodical with their work and identify key words. I offer correction but also like to be patient to truly understand which part gives the student a struggle.
I have been tutoring in mathematics from basic elementary math to Calculus I for the last 10 years. Studying engineering showed me how meticulous I had to be with my study habits and I am now able to teach other students these same tips. My teaching style really depends on the person I am working with. People learn different ways. It is important to identify what works best for the person. For example, some people may learn through discussion, while others may need to see pictures or presentations of the subject matter. I like to identify how the person learns first through questions, or by testing them with a simple task first to identify the method which seems to work best for them. Once this has been identified, training can begin.
I have both a bachelors degree and masters degree in business administration/management. Many of the things in life that we don't "get" are things we don't understand. When teaching, I try to break things down and simplify them so they can be easily understood. Often the kids in my class are those who do not like to be challenged, so I incorporate a lot of questions to provoke thinking and problem solving on their own. Since repetition is a key component to learning, I review a lot which requires patience but pays great dividends in the long run.
