The primary obligation of a tutor is to show the pupil that big, intimidating chunks of academic work, whether they be assignments, units, or even entire classes, can be broken down into logical sequences of more manageable parts. To accomplish that, I focus first on my demeanor. My teaching philosophy involves connecting with individual students. One of my strengths is identifying strong points in a student’s performance and teaching him to tap into successful facets of his/her performance. In English, I was trained in (and advocate) “Faulkner English” as developed by Claude Faulkner and taught at the University of Arkansas. This method employs a certain amount of deconstruction of sentences, beginning with the most simple, and can be geared to any level.
