I'm fairly laid back. I try to get to know the student first and see how they do with their work on their own and of course helping them out when needed. Occasionally, I'll give my own tests to see how well their test taking skills are and how they do under pressure. Once I get an idea of which area is their weak point, I'll prioritize the subjects so that more time is focused on their weak area whether it be reading, math, writing, or even just test taking skills. I also do a lot of fun logic puzzles to get them thinking and also creative writing projects so that they have a way to express themselves. I think it is very important for children to have a chance to break away from the standardized tests and be allowed to think outside the box starting at a young age.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Bachelor's in Computer Science with focus on the Microsoft languages (C++, C#, ASP, dotNEt, etc.) The requirements for this degree was heavy in math. I do, however, feel better qualified in verbal and writing skills. I also have a minor in Philosophy and Theology. During my course as a math tutor, I’ve found one on one tutoring to be most effective. Each child presented different needs and was receptive to different teaching methods, so I would meet with them individually. I believe each child is just as likely to succeed as the next one, and as a tutor, it is my job to encourage and instill confidence in them.
As I approach my college graduation, I have realized how fortunate I am to have been given the opportunity to attend college. I understood the importance of understanding math in life early on and my Finance degree only validated that notion.
