I started my tutoring experience in the math Lab at AUM when they stared up and continued until till I gratuated. I then started tutoring with the Learning center at AUM for several years. My job at Trenholm occasionaly required me to tutor more than one person. I emplement many differnt teaching stragies depending on the students needs. I love to see the light-bulb go on inside as children grasp material they are struggling with. At first, I teach and watch to see their facial expressions and comprehension in order to figure out what they are struggling with. Then, I approach the topic from a different way, tailored to their specific struggles. I continue to reassess their comprehension and approach the topic from different angles until I break through. Take algebra, for example. Often times, students struggle with having to "show their work." The long process required to get to the answer becomes confusing. I find that a simpler, shorter process is comprehended well. So, I start with this. I make sure that they have mastered the shorter, simpler technique and then, I broaden their understanding so they are able to master the longer process required by their teachers.

A Little Bit About Me...

I earned both of my degrees while working and caring for very young children. I feel this was possible because of my time management skills and determination to see a task through to completion. I have worked in the accounting or banking industry for over thirty years and truly love working with numbers. I fell in love with accounting in high school, finishing the semester project in about a month and a half and never looked back. When my wife and I lived in Seymour (2002-2004), we often helped our nephews with their math homework or class Science projects.
