Geometry is one of my top subjects!

i am pretty relaxed and informal, but I expect students to do the work assigned. I help, but I don't do the work for them. I use Socratic questioning to get students to understand the material. I stress learning concepts and building on them as opposed to memorizing or guessing enough to pass a test.
I received a BS in Horticulture from Va. Polytechnic Institute and State University. majored in Biology (Botany) for 3 years at Virginia Commonwealth Univ. and College of William and Mary. Recently retook Precalculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Calculus 3 at Virginia Western Community College. I have a background tutoring and running a tutoring center for STEM subjects at a community college for 3 years. I have been tutoring in some form for 6 years. I have a certification in tutoring ESL and several years experience in that.

My comments on tutoring Geometry : Expert at all Geometry concepts. Particularly good at breaking down the concepts and building on the concepts in order: points, lines, planes, angles, parallel lines, triangles, similarity, trigonometry, quadrilaterals, transformations, circles and area. Also good at explaining proofs and what constitutes a correct proof and showing students common errors students make in attempting proofs.

I am currently employed by a college in Roanoke, Virginia as a tutor of mathematics, chemistry, and computer science and tutor elementary school, middle school, high school, college students, and others professionally. For the last 23 years, it has been so fulfilling working for three colleges and tutoring independently over 2,000 students of all ages in all areas of math and computer science, as well as college writing, adult literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL). I was a math tutor at Northern Virginia Community College in Sterling, VA from 08/03 to 07/07. I have also taught adult swim lessons and group swim lessons for children at the Ashburn Sports Pavilion in Ashburn VA.
I enjoy teaching. I believe all children have the ability to succeed in the subject of math. The key to teaching children math is to find out what motivates your students.
