A Little Bit About Me...

My primary experience in my over twelve years of teaching has been teaching students with special needs, working mostly with younger students with difficulties with reading and writing, or math. Besides the Woodcock Johnson III, I have been trained in using Qualitative Reading Inventories, DRA, and Running Records, and am familiar with Guided Reading, Dibles, and the Spire program. Here is Some Good Information About Elementary Phonics Tutoring

Most children begin learning phonics by sounding out letters and learning what items represent that sound and that letter, i.e. A is for apple; A sounds like “aaaaaaaaaaaaaa”. Children begin learning phonics from parents, siblings, videos, and music at a very early age (2-4 years old) even before entering school. Phonics involves teaching how to connect the sounds of spoken English with letters or groups of letters and teaching them to blend the sounds of letters together to produce approximate pronunciations of unknown words.
