I originally started out in Kindergarten which I taught for 3 years, then I student taught in 2nd grade and 3rd grade, taught 3rd grade for a year and now I have been happily teaching first grade for my second year. Most Math books recommend teaching for about half the class and then let students work some problems in class. I find this works well, it allows questions and the class becomes interactive. I encourge questions while I am introducing a subject and find it gives me a chance to use different examples to get a poinnt across.
