English ESOL is one of my top subjects! I spent two years (2012 - 2014) living in South Korea, teaching English to elementary and middle school students. I also received my certification for teaching English as a foreign language from ITTT (International TEFL TESOL Training) in 2012, after completing one of their more rigorous courses.

I prefer a very conversational approach with my students. The style encourages mutual respect and allows me to observe more closely how the student learns. In addition, I feel learning is absorbed better when the information is couched in a story, and I believe conversation is a style of storytelling.
I have years of experience in varying forms of educations, but my most relevant is the two years (2012-2014) I lived in South Korea, teaching elementary and middle school students in English as a foreign language at a private academy. During that time period, I also tutored two adults in conversation, vocabulary, and diction. This experience led me to the decision to pursue a Masters in teaching, and until I complete that goal, I am going to keep my skills fresh with tutoring.

Masters in TESOL - 3 years + experience.

My teaching style is very hands on. I like for my students to receive as much one to one time as necessary for their language evolvement. I am laid back and believe that laughter is one of the best tools to help instruct my students.
I first begin my teaching career in Seoul South Korea where I was teaching children from the age of 5 - 13 in a private school. Being in a foreign country opened my eyes to the many different experiences and cultural differences that we all share which allows me to relate well to different cultural backgrounds. I received my masters degree in TESOL from the University of Liverpool in 2009. This degree specifically focused on how to ensure learning materials were psychologically appropriate to different age groups to receive maximum benefit. Also, while I lived in England and while I was there I was able to privately tutor students from Iran, Af ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching, especially with tutoring, is to find out what kind of learner my student is: tacit, oral, or verbal. Then the lesson style can be geared to that, while leading the student to become more aware of the other abilities and options. Also, it is imperative that students understand why they are learning what is being presented to them. Cause and effect leads to greater awareness and more objective, analytical, and critical thinking. Creating a reason and success in learning, making it practical and fun can lead any child to want to continue to grow in any area of interest, and tie that back to other skills which my not be so appealing at this point in their life.
I have taught and been certified in four states. Grades 7-9 is the level I prefer, though I have taught at the Junior College level also. History is my major, and having spent much of my you ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My style incorporates exercise kinesiology, developmentally appropriate materials and hands-on learning activities that are meaningful. I have been learning about Integrated Thematic Instruction, and I feel the incorporation of these views of valid lessons that are hands-on with learning objectives that match the needs of the developing child, match what I believe to be a whole child teaching approach.
As a student in Health Science, i.e. Medical Technology, I worked in a genetics laboratory for 14 years learning lab instrumentation, trouble-shooting, cytogenetics and professional etiquette. Lectures as well as public presentations of newly discovered genetic abnormalities was my passion. I truly enjoyed preparing and presenting these exciting talks. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching young children for over ten years. I have a BA in Speech Communication. My research proposal was published in the Research Handbook of the George Mason Communication Department in 1996. I have superior writing and editing skills. I have a Master's in Education.
I currently teach to a diverse, at-risk population employing a variety of teaching methods. Many of my students are considered "gifted" after I teach them. My first grade students have reached as high as the 4th-6th grade reading levels. After one year of instruction, one of my piano students (age 6) was deemed a child prodigy during the National Piano Guild at Christopher Newport University. Teaching and teaching parents to teach their own children is my gift and passion.

A Little Bit About Me...

Part of my sucess in life is because I place a high value on personal entergrity and represent both my employer and myself in an ethical respectable manner. Added to my diligence of focusing on the students education I will bring years of traveling and life experiences to my teaching assignments. I believe that before an educator is able to teach, you must first discover the needs of the students and then program the material to fit those needs. I like to teach to the senses and bring more than just a text book to my lesson plans and make them fun and exciting.
After graduating from High School I attended the University of Utah for 1 year. After that year I was drafted into the US Marine Corps and my education was put on hold as I served my country and raised a family. After all of my children graduated from college I returned to finish my studies. This past year I have worked a ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Although I have only tutored English in Japan to adults and children, I believe my bachelor degree in French and Master's degree in art education combined with one year of student teaching in art provide a strong foundation to be an effective tutor. I can also add my extensive background in holistic health which can be a contribution to the mental/emotional/physical components of a child's learning paradigm.
My teaching style in the classroom involves the creation of agreements for decorum and expected performance criteria, usually in the form of a rubric for each project assigned. My goal as a tutor is to assist a child with his/her own particular educational needs. I especially enjoy working one on one with children of all ages, observing, listening and drawing them out in creative ways to enhance their learning process.

More About This Tutor...

I have done much sales and customer service work, as well as teaching. I think listening is key, recognizing the humanity in each person, and relating to it while communicating. In teaching, setting expectations is important... expectations of what the goal is; what they will learn, and then adapting it to the abilities of that individual. Again, as I said, I think listening is key, and empathizing with the individual. Of course you have to set standards, such as homework expected, and tests (as a teacher).
I earned a BS in Business (CIS) with a cumulative 3.4 GPA and membership in two National Honor Societies. Courses included Chemistry, many Social Studies classes, and calculus-based Chem Physics. Briefly I taught Science and Math at a private high school in Albuquerque and did well, but quit because of a medical problem with my leg. After active duty in the Navy, I ea ... read more

Socratic, I like the students to build on what they already know so that it becomes an extension of their long term memory not another short term memory soon forgotten. I have found ways to connect almost any subject matter from physics to algebra to chemistry nomenclature into something one already knows. If one uses long term memory pegs one can "file" things in memory and recall with very little effort.
I have received a degree in English and was a pre-law student. I owned a real estate company in 1990s. I was in the Navy (scored 95% on ASVAB) and worked in the field of intelligence. I acquired legal experience working within real estate and finance. I have an intricate knowledge of contract law, working knowledge of medical law - where it governs patient interaction, privacy, medical records and patient rights. A Little Bit About Me...

I taught English as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Korea, then received a Master's Degree in teaching and worked in Mexico, Japan, Iran, and the United States, teaching and also coordinating a bilingual program for refugees with the Tacoma Public Schools. I then became a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State, serving on five continents and three islands. I speak Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish, and Dutch, and have extensive experience in writing and editing a variety of reports and related documents.
I work to identify each student's strengths and to build upon these, while also noting areas for improvement and tailoring lessons and assignments designed to address these areas. Because people learn in several different ways, I strive to individualize instructional approaches based on my perception of what works best for each student. I am unfailingly patient and poli ... read more
