My teaching style is very interactive, as I believe that a student learns more quickly and retains more if he/she is actively involved. Therefore I work together with the student through the assigned task, giving independent study when needed. Some example tasks may include reading aloud together, reading silently followed by opportunity for comprehension through a question-answer session, and choices of writing tasks to reflect on reading. I try to understand the student's current needs or reading/writing level and help them to excel from that point.
I have taught high school and middle school English, as well as one year of teaching at an alternative school. As a graduate of a small liberal arts college, I have spent many hours volunteering to help tutor my classmates in both biology and the humanities. I hold a bachelor's degree in biology. I have learned extensive grammatical skills through my school's intensive general studies program.
