I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. I not only want to teach them how to properly concur their learning material but how to find the information they need if they do not know the answer. Additionally, I want them to have fun and enjoy quality time with a supportive mentor and gain an enthusiasm for school.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is geared more towards each individual child. Some are auditory learners, some learn just by watching and still others require tactile stimulation in order to learn. I generally use a combination of all three focusing on the one that is strongest for each individual child. I believe with patience and understanding all children can and will learn. I have had wondeful teachers myself and strive to pattern myself after them to make a significant difference in each child's life. I look fondly back at those teachers because they have molded me to the person I am today.

Currently, I am a graduate student in the Counselor Education Department at the University of Florida. I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish from the University of Florida in May 2007. While I was earning my Bachelors’ degree I was a tutor for Upward Bound. I tutored high-school students in numerous areas including math, foreign language, reading, and test preparation. After graduation, I became a site coordinator for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida. I tutored elementary aged students during my time with the Boys & Girls Clubs. I love seeing people understand something once I explain it to them in a way that they can understand it. I also love working with kids and teenagers because I believe that if we have a positive influence on young people they will grow up to be the leaders that our nation needs. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science from the University of Florida, I feel that I have gained a well rounded education in all areas including English, mathematics, biology and natural sciences.I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health because I love to learn. I have been working with children ages 3-14 since I was 15 years old. I spent my summers working as a summer camp counselor. In college I worked for an organization called America Reads and tutored approximately 10 elementary students in reading. Together we read books at their specific reading levels and played games to that allowed them to build better reading and writing skills.
