Successful test prep retired English teacher

I recently retired from the HOPE School of Hamilton City Schools. The HOPE School is a credit recovery school that helps students get caught up for graduation. Students who are too far behind to complete graduation in a timely manner are given GED tutoring. I was in charge of this tutoring and tutoring for state standards tests. I like to determine my teaching style by first evaluating a child's current progress and learning style. Learning is a very individualized process, therefore, teaching must also be individual. I am a relaxed person, and I like to find a way to relate material to a child in a way that he/she will not only understand, but retain. Flash cards are great for some children, and other children will learn better with a pneumonic device, while still other learners will make up a song to remember the material.
