I prefer to use a hands on approach to education. I like to have the kids get engrossed in the subject matter by reading aloud and taking part in discussion sessions. However I provided assistance to the teachers and mentored the children that had potential, but didn't have the extra push in life to motivate them to be more. I worked at Billie Hardee Home for Boys in Darlington, SC as a volunteer I provided teen age boys the assistance in tutoring them with math, reading, and science. A Little Bit About Me...

Personally, I am dyslexic and despite my learning differences I was able to attend law school and pass the South Carolina Bar exam. During my first year of teaching I was disappointed to learn how little time and energy is given to students who learn differently. My second year I choose to work at the John de la Howe School for at-risk youth and I loved every minute of that year: the school was designed to teach students with learning differences and behavioral issues.
I learned to be a more creative, patient and more caring teacher during that school year.
