I attended Central Michigan University on a full-ride Centralis Scholar Award earning a BS in Accounting. Since graduating, I have worked in public accounting and am currently taking online courses to obtain a Masters degree in Accounting. I have taken every opportunity to tutor local high school students in any subject and local college students in English and Accounting.
I believe that individuals of any age can learn new skills with the right instructor. The first step that any educator should take is to learn from students what approach works best with them. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in education has been wide and full of variety. I began working as a linguistics tutor for the university. I worked with several students over the course of the two years in which I worked for the department. I began my field work at Mt. Morris Junior High School performing my observations. I completed my student teaching at Lapeer West High School, before graduating with a BA in Secondary Education. There, I taught English 12, Mythology, and, perhaps most beneficial to my experience, Literacy Skills, where I was able to work with many students with diverse reading and age levels. I currently work for the Lapeer Family Literacy Center.

A Little Bit About Me...

Dr. Segal taught us that traditional teaching methods are outmoded. Therefore I came to my own conclusion that as a teacher I would allow my students to confront me on their terms and make the learning experience as relaxed as possible. Students won't learn anything if A) the environment is unsuited to them and B) if you jump down their throat over every little thing. The important question to ask them is "why?" or "what do you think?" In regards to myself teaching is an avenue that I am considering and thus a bit of real tutoring would give me a taste of how I should go about teaching in the future.

Teaching mainly K-8 on a consistent schedule, I have learned that some students need one-on-one teaching. Being the third teacher in Head Start, I had time to work with individual students. All children were very well prepared for kindergarten. The older children, including High School and Middle School, I would walk around the room and aide them when they were confused. I also had them read the text orally taking turns and we would do the work sheet to prepare for quiz, test or new chapter. I am very patient with those who are truly in need of assistance. I have tutored in the past in phonics for those having difficulty reading and pronouncing letters.
