My teaching style is unique to each student's indivdual needs. I take time to recognize my students learning style and provide the need materials or teaching style based their needs. I prefer tutoring to working in a classroom because I can give each student the specialized one-on-one time they need to help not only keep them on track with their school's requirements, but also introduce them to better study habits that could help them excel in the classroom when they do return to school.

Because I've worked with students who have various learning differences, I have a vast array of teaching strategies. What works for one child doesn't always work for another. I encourage auditory learners to always read the instructions back to me. It helps if they can explain the material as if they were teaching the subject. Visual learns tend to respond to charts, graphs, note-taking, powerpoint- anything containing shapes and color. Tactile learners have sensory needs. If at all possible, this type of learner should be given a "hands-on" task to help them assimilate the material. I believe that my patience and relaxed nature builds confidence and trust in each student. All children can be motivated to learn, because all children want to succeed in life.

My teaching style functions around the fact that I am passionate about learning, which finds its way into my teaching style. I feel that every student has the capability to learn and because of that I feel that with the right patience and understanding, every student can achieve something wonderful. I believe each student I see is unique which means that each student requires specific needs to achieve the best they can. As a teacher I believe we need to be able to adapt to each student, find out what they need to help them achieve and do our best to give them that. I feel that with that dedication, students not only find a stronger and more positive sense of self but feel confident to accomplish things on their own, which in the end is always my ultimate goal. To give the student the materials they need and the confidence they are lacking to be able to go out in the world and complete a ... read more

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2005 I went on to work as a Special Education aid at the middle school level. I was responsible for a ten year old girl with Asperger's Syndrome, which required me to monitor her throughout the day as well as modify each lesson given in each subject. As math was her weakest subject, I was able to develop a a learning system which suite her learning style. I also taught her not only math but every other subject such as science, social studies, grammar, and reading. Throughout college I also worked as an elementary level tutor for those students with low reading levels

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from Haverford College with a double major in physics and astronomy, I worked for three years as an astrophysics researcher at NASA and Harvard University. In 2000, I became a teacher and a tutor. Since that time, I have taught children of all ages and adults in a wide variety of subjects. From 2002-2003, I designed and taught my own courses in physics and Calculus at the Academy at Charlemont. From 2004-2006, I completed a two year graduate program in physics education at the University of California, Berkeley. I gathered extensive experience student teaching at urban schools in the Bay Area and participated in two research groups. For my Master's thesis, I developed a curriculum to teach modern physics at the high school level using computer technology and hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory activities. I believe that every student should have a unique path, with no two students having the same path to musical fulfillment. Each student of mine has their lessons individually tailored to their needs. I will even write exercises for my students to emphasize a certain skill I wish them to possess. The foundation for musical production is an individual journey with two main aspects: dedication (practice) and musicianship (the love of music). The goal of private instruction is more than helping the student cultivate their skills on their chosen instrument - it is also to help the student's love of music grow so that this love will last a lifetime.

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I believe in some degree of structure, I am very flexible in my teaching style. Every student is different - I work with each one individually to determine their goals and then develop an appropriate, unique program. Children learn best by actively participating in the material. I try to engage them as much as possible, whether it be with a lively discussion about music history, practicing and performing a piece of music until we are both satisfied with the result, or hearing and speaking French instead of simply memorizing the grammatical rules of the language.

I worked also with Après la classe (“after classroom”) – 16, rue Commines BP 3003 75121 Paris Cedex 3 – as a tutor from November 1999 to January 2000 and had three pupils: a little girl of 6 years old; we did a lot of reading, a teenager of 13 years old (her sister); we repeated her History and a student of 20 years old that was studying to be a midwife and had bad marks in French literature: I tried to make her love to read but I think that today, I would do better: I would give her some “tricks” to succeed: how to read a text, what “turns” to look for, how to call them (those parts), what for, what do they support, and so on...
If a child, an adult or a teenager doesn't like you, it will be difficult (impossible?) to have him (her) learn from you. Unless you are very strong and I am "nice": I don't like to be rude. So I would need to be appreciated in order to teach. That is why ... read more
