I am a big believer in explaining concepts repeatedly until a student understands so I have a lot of patience. You need to with math. I remember how it was learning all those concepts for the first time. I try to use steps as much as possible so my students always feel like they have a way to get to their destination from any point in a problem. Beyond that there's not to much to say. I am very great when it comes to teaching. I show the way the child learns. If the child learns by playing a sport I show them while using sports as examples. One example is when it comes to basketball and math I draw a court for them and have them draw teams and once that is done. I have the child plan a way to make the basket. Once he or she does I have them let me know what was your plan? Once they do I let them know you can use a triangle formation , cubic formation or adding numbers in order to make the basket. The triangle you can use it making one on the side putting numbers and trying to figure it out if the corner you chose will help you win the game.
