Tutoring should be a tool used to complement traditional education. When tutoring there is little help in providing information to the student the same way that the teacher presents it. Tutors may also fall into the trap of simply giving the student the answers. For these reasons I prefer an holistic approach to tutoring. Every student is different and they all have different ways of understanding the material. As I am tutoring I keep in mind that I am also learning, keeping an open mind about the way a students is learning helps me to determine the best method of teaching the subject at hand.

After College I spent 8 years at a College Prep School Schuyleville, NY where I taught NY State Regents Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Algebra. I also taught Earth Science there and was a dorm supervisor. In 1980 I took a job with the NYS Division For Youth as a Math/Science teacher for incarcerated youth at risk in a residential program.
