I'll Teach your Student to Teach Him or Herself

I hate lecturing! I do! This is why my tutoring style is very interactive. I don't like talking AT a person, I prefer to have a conversation. My goal as a tutor is to make subjects interesting, and also to make sure they stick- so you can do well on exams. I also teach study skills in every session, so ideally you won't have to rely on me forever. I try to give students tools that they can use to teach them how to teach themselves- something they'll have to do if they're considering college.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a voracious reader, I have always been interested in many subjects in the world, above and beyond what I have studied in school. I earned a bachelor's degree in English and a recent master's in international management with a focus on migrant education/bilingual education. I spent years working with faculty on books at the college level, helping them to tailor their work for nonreaders, for visual learners, and students whose interests are far different from their own bookish world. Teaching can be a most wonderful adventure. I believe every child can learn. At times students or overwhelming with new concepts, and they need to be encouraged, and praise until they can accomplish the task at hand. I enjoy seeing the appearence of awareness on a childs face, when they have accomplished a goal, or solved a problem they had difficulty solving.
