I feel that my largest teaching strength is the ability to identify where students are having problems and address those issues first. If students don't understand the fundamentals, it is impossible to teach them advanced concepts. In addition to this, being able to identify the students learning style and teach to them personally is something I am skilled at. I tend to connect with my students and am proud to be involved with their success.
In High School I discovered that not only was I skilled in math and science, but that I was effective in tutoring other students in these subjects. I have a very diverse background and I have many years of experience teaching in different subjects. I was an English teacher for one year in Korea, teaching children at a public school. I have taught fine art at a private school in Salinas. I have also been teaching martial arts and self-defense for over 10 years. I have worked with children as young as 4, to adults in their senior years. I hold a bachelor's degree in Business Marketing from San Jose State and I graduated with honors.
I enjoy working with students of all ages. As a teacher, there is nothing greater than to see my students succeed. A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored at the Hartnell College Math Lab in topics ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus. I also tutored/mentored recent high school graduates and motivated them to pursue careers in math and science. I tutored Algebra at Sweetwater Union High School District as part of the Gear Up program at San Diego State. I taught Geometry and Pre-Calculus at San Diego State and prepared students for Pre-Calculus as part of the Math Academy at Hartnell College.
I have always had a natural curiosity for learning Mathematics and a desire to teach others. Teaching can be a most wonderful adventure. I believe every child can learn. At times students or overwhelming with new concepts, and they need to be encouraged, and praise until they can accomplish the task at hand. I enjoy seeing the appearence of awareness on a childs face, when they have accomplished a goal, or solved a problem they had difficulty solving. I believe tutoring a child can be a powerful tool, and it can also unleash a potential genius.

I love helping a student come to a mathematical conclusion on his/her own. My 7th graders discovered the distributive prop through an investigation about theater seats. I also remember showing my Alg2 students why borrowing works using $1, $10, and $100 bills and trading with the bank. They were so excited to finally understand subtraction. What a thrill for me! However, when a frustrated Junior was having trouble calculating determinants correctly, it simply didn’t make sense to start at the beginning and help her discover how determinants work.
