I feel that my largest teaching strength is the ability to identify where students are having problems and address those issues first. If students don't understand the fundamentals, it is impossible to teach them advanced concepts. I have always had a natural curiosity for learning Mathematics and a desire to teach others. I remember being a student in Elementary School struggling to understand a particular concept and then imagining myself explaining this concept to others once I achieved understanding. Mathematics has always been challenging for me but noticed that as long as I was persistent I always acquired knowledge of the material. I was exposed to many different math instructors and many of them motivated me to learn mathematics and inspired me to want to teach. Throughout high school and college, I belonged to several tutoring organizations. I took multiple extra classes on education and tutoring techniques at Cal Poly. My senior project researched the process in which adolescents first learn to think abstractly. Stanford's STEP program was an intense year which prepared me very well for classroom teaching. My colleagues continually asked for copies of my original lesson plans. Many students thanked me for helping them "finally get math." I have enjoyed the last 5 years of teaching.
