A Little Bit About Me...

In a nutshell, I taught high school English for eleven years. I am passionate about all facets of education in the classroom and the real world. I have much to offer my students whether it be a love of literature, grammar and vocabulary or life itself! I love to teach.
My teaching style is one of discipline and at the same time hands-on. Students must feel the relevance of the world around them in order to gain an understanding of what's being taught. I work with the individual but never let the focus off of the competition that's waiting. Students must understand that learning is an every day, every moment experience. By the completion, in May, of my graduate degree, I will have taught 45 hours of undergraduate English courses in Composition/Rhetoric, Business Writing, Literature, Creative Writing and Essay Writing. I have also, in previous summers, taught college-prep English classes at Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane, Washington. My other experiences as an instructor include four semesters as a writing tutor for the University of Arkansas Athletic Department, a five-week writing workshop for fifth graders at the Fayetteville Public Library, and active participation in the University of Arkansas' Writers in the Schools program, which sends graduate students to high-needs grade schools, junior highs, and high schools to teach poetry workshops.

I am an award-winning journalist and editor with 10 years of experience. I graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in journalism. I also concentrated on English, political science and history while in school. While in college, I was the teaching assistant for advanced reporting and advanced editing, two capstone classes for a bachelor's degree. Sometimes, I facilitate from the side, allowing the students to take hands on control with the information, at other periods, I might lecture on the topic and then question and discuss issues provided from what was just read. One just has to be acquainted with the learners' style and then the subject, lesson plan, and displaying of information can be customized more suitedly, to the student.
