I attended Thomas More College on an academic scholarship and graduated with honors in the spring of 2011 with a BA in Environmental Science. Presently, I am pursuing a Master of Biology degree at the University of Cincinnati, where I hold a University Graduate Scholarship as well as a Yates Scholarship. I worked as a private tutor from 2006 through 2011, and in 2008 and 2009 I also tutored through Thomas More College. Currently, I am an instructor for undergraduate biology labs at the University of Cincinnati.
I have worked with elementary, high school, and college-aged students, providing instruction in subjects ranging from English to biology. When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education. I have been able to tutor students in reading, sentence structure, English and American history.
I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning. The thrill that I feel when that point is found and theirs, (And my, excitement,)grows. There is no feeling in the world like that!

Most math and science classes are problem driven. As a tutor, I would go over home work problems assigned to the student. If this wasn't complete enough, I would allow the student to use some of the learning CD's I have on the subjects that are also problem driven. If the student is having trouble understanding concepts then I would try to create analogies relative to the student's environment.
I worked in the tutoring section of both East Tennessee State University and Southern State Community College. I did not major in the subjects which I listed (I minored in Chemistry), but I do have experience as tutor. A Little Bit About Me...

Having graduated with a BS in Mathematics I am now continuing my passion for learning while pursuing a masters degree in Nurse Anesthesia. My liberal arts degree from Hillsdale College has given me extensive work in all areas of learning. In the past eight years I have taught music theory and piano lessons, tutored Junior High School - University students in Mathematics and English, and instructed Halfway House residents in Mathematics, English, and Sciences in pursuit of obtaining a GED.
