Foreign language and culture study has been one of my primary passions for years. I took my first French class at age 9, but really began in-depth study as a high school student. I excelled throughout those four years, finishing with AP level French language. Unsure of where to focus my university studies, I abandoned French for a couple years, but returned to it with a renewed energy. A Little Bit About Me...

I started tutoring in 2009 through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. I tutor my "Little" for an hour once a week. I help with whatever subject they need. My specialty is Language Arts, but if you need help with basic math, I can do that too. I have observed many elementary, middle school, and high school classes. I know what works best, especially since I'm going to become a high school language arts teacher in a few years.
I'm patient. I'll try and make my lessons easy to understand. I know how frustrating language arts can be, but I also know how rewarding it can be as well. I can relate very easily to high school students, because I just graduated from high school 5 years ago.

A Little Bit About Me...

Pick out what's good and encourage that. It is too easy to focus on the negative. As a writer who understands rejection very well, it has humbled me. Another set of eyes always helps during the editing process. Sometimes a writer just needs to be set on the correct path, and they can do much of the rest from there. Being a parent has also taught me patience, which is something any teacher needs. Also, reading helps you become a better writer. I think when I was younger I didn't want to hear that as much, but it's true.
While I have made a living as a technical writer in the software industry for sixteen years, part of making a life has been through my creative writing. I have written eighteen screenplays, three adult fiction manuscripts, three nonfiction manuscripts, two YA manuscripts, and now I hope to have found my niche as a middle grade novelist.
