I would describe my teaching style as learning by doing and not learning by lecture. I like the structure and logic of Math. I have always enjoyed helping students grasp concepts that can be utilized in the sciences.
I have taught math for thirty five (35) years at Lexington high school. I have worked the past 16 years in the automotive industry mainly as a manufacturing supervisor. Also, since high school have volunteered abd served on 2 fire departments as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. In my year of graduate school I accepted a position as a teaching assistant. It was my first opportunity to stand in front of a class. It was a very rewarding experience to be able to teach and also help people in subject areas of which you have great expertise and interest. More recently, I have had vast experience working with middle-school students and am currently doing in-home tutoring. I continue to enjoy working with all types of students, especially in mathematics.
In teaching, one must realize that students learn at different rates of speed. Consequently, you need to find a pace at which the student feels comfortable. While pursuing my BA accounting and BA in business finance at Wilmington College, I was very involved in tutoring other students at the college. At Wilmington College, we had supplemental instruction which is basically a group tutoring session where the leader is chosen by the professor teaching the course.
