I am currently a senior at Urbana University and will be graduating in may of 2013. Along side of being a full time student of mathematics I also play varsity baseball at the university and have received the scholar athlete award several times in my four years. Being a division 2 athlete has given me the best of both worlds I believe in that play on the field was competitive and forced me to become a leader but also helped in making me accell in the classroom as it is said the student always comes first in student athlete. Although difficulty with math is a common with todays students I am convinced it is largely due to a lack of confidence. In addition to aiding a students learning process I believe it is important to be a coach as well, encouraging the student to believe in the potential that lies within most all students. I have found most students can and do perform better as they start believing in themselves. I believe in giving the students study hints and tools for preparing for exams. As most of my experience and interest is in mathematics, I always want to see a student be able to solve problems on their own. It's a great feeling when a student overcomes a hurdle and they realize that they can get the right answer.
In my year of graduate school I accepted a position as a teaching assistant. It was my first opportunity to stand in front of a class.
