My comments on tutoring Economics : My undergrad major. I also tutored for many years in Economics and worked as an Economics Teacher's Assistant at the University of San Francisco.

I work in the compliance/legal field in banking with over 15 years of experience with an educational foundation of a B.A. in Economics and a J.D. (i.e., law degree). I'm multi-lingual with fluency in Spanish, German and Polish. I have well over a decade of tutoring experience predominantly in economics, various math topics, Spanish and various subjects of law, in addition to LSAT prep.
Style is one-on-one. The tutoring is flexible to accommodate different people's styles. However, tutoring is what one makes of it.

I am very patient and concerned. My major objective is to identify the area that needs to be addressed. I often also use comparisons to 'real world' similarities in order to make the point. It is also necessary to understand how a person perceives, rationalizes and applies information, as every person is different in this process. Being a current student myself, I can appreciate the hardships and struggles of education. I feel that you must always level with your students, no matter what the age. The students are the ones who must lead the class. However, we as educators have a duty to guide and to nourish this idea. When tutoring, I feel it is best to sit back and review the student's work and watch him/her in action. Once I have established where he/she needs work, I show the student a different way of looking at the problem(s). I use their motivations to demonstrate the value of learning the subject in which he/she struggles. I show the student different perspectives, diagrams, and use additional resources such as quiz games. I let the student know that he/she is not alone in his/her struggle. I become more of a peer as I let them know that I too have had tutors and was even placed in a special needs class as a child. As the bond grows, it becomes easier for the student to relax, absorb the information, and put it into practice.
