Hello! My name is Kayla Bear. I am a first-year student at Purdue University; however, I am a sophomore according to my credit hours. I earned college credit in high school to get ahead of the game. I worked as a peer mentor throughout high school, helping students with their homework and helping prepare them for tests such as the SAT. A Little Bit About Me...

Education does not stop with books. I incorporate "real life" experiences with the material being presented. I try to make the subject fun and meaningful to the student. My classes are run with volunteer participation. (They "jump and do" at the board.) I enjoy helping others and watching the lightbulbs come on with whatever level of student I am working with. I take homework, quizzes, and tests personally. They evaluate the student as well as me. Am I presenting the material in a manner that is understood? My teaching style is helping the student arrive at the correct solution. In problem based courses this is usually done through asking the student what they think the next step should be and guiding them through the process of problem solving. Once they start to understand problem solving then they do not only improve in the course that I am tutoring them in but in their other courses as well. In a nutshell I try to help students learn how to learn.
