I have been a certified special education teacher for 10 years. I have had the fortune to teach in various environments in a handful of different states. I have taught elementary students for a majority of my career, but have also managed to squeeze in high school and middle students for three years. The flexibility of my certification has allowed me to teach students with varying needs in the classroom and to teach Core Curriculum state standards, an alternative curriculum, and functional skills.

At our first session, I ask that each student complete a short quiz to determine their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc). Every child learns differently and I believe that discovering what works best for each student is the first step towards success. Once we figure out what his/her learning style is, I cater to this. If they learn best by reading, I'll prepare worksheets based on what they're learning; if they're hands-on learners, I'll make an activity.
