I have a non-teaching BA degree in English. I spent all 4 college years working on my college newspaper, and two years after graduation working for a local newspaper. My job responsibilities included covering news and local functions, and then writing news and feature stores. I also helped proof read submitted articles for publication. I began teaching them in the first grade and have continued up to, and including, the present time. My son is now a high school freshman and my daughter is in the eighth grade. The goal of my approach is to enable students to have a level of ownership in learning concepts and ideas. Merely teaching the idea is not enough, and that "Oh, I see" moment must occur to embed the idea for long-term growth. I enjoy relating the ideas and facts to real world examples that almost anyone can grasp.

I have tutored students individually at school, but a tutor needs to start somewhere or will never get experience. I have always helped fellow students with homework by explicitly explaining answers when they are asked or at least triggering their minds to what they need to learn. I am anxious to teach middle school aged kids as it will be a fun experience and I have always thought about teaching kids, because we all need to have the opportunity to an education.
