Set Realistic Goals and Rewards Create realistic, individual goals for all of your students. It's nice to have a classroom goal so students feel like they are working together, encouraging one another. However, it's more important to give each student an attainable goal that's personalized for their educational needs, such as completing homework assignments on time or checking over an assignment before they turn it in. I believe in learning to do things the "hard" way for math, making change, etc. Calculators are good for higher functions and after basics are learned. The difficulty with learning for children today is their short attention spans. But by keeping the topics fresh, as well as fun, it peaks their interest.
