A Little Bit About Me...

I use verbal and visual techniques for teaching and prefer to add an element of kinetic learning for tutoring. I explain the material in the book, preferably after the students have read the chapter. I also provide time for questions and answers, as well as group discussions and projects. I rely on exams only to show me if the students are understanding the material. If not I offer to tutor them or suggest they find a tutor.
I tutored math and science for Carl Albert State College from Sept. 1994 to May 1995. I tutored mostly in Algebra, but also in word processing, and anatomy and physiology. While in college thought CCD classes to 4th grade students Held and directed literacy classes to English-Speaking adults. I speak and write English and Spanish fluently. Tutored Biology and Chemistry during college
After obtaining a list of objectives, I like to offer a pop quiz to set a baseline. Thereafter, topics are divided in number of days available for preparation. Most important topics and topics not well understood get time and individualized priority. Offer a challenge test at the end. Harder than the test students will face but no so hard as to lower self steem.

I try to show students the fun side of learning. In the science field there are so many exciting things to learn and do. I think if children are taught that learning is fun at an early age it makes them more apt to do well throughout their academic career. I have patience and the willingness to decide the correct approach for each individual student.
I earned a comprehensive biology, chemistry, science degree in secondary edu. I taught 7-12 grade life, earth, physics, ap chemistry, and biology in Alpena, Ar. for almost a year. I was the director of the EncorePlus non-profit breast cancer organization for 3+ years in Little Rock, Ar. I have experience in grant writing and reporting.
