I began working with children who were diagnosed with autism my first year of college (I did this for 7 years). I felt a sense of accomplishment as I watched them grow as people. I realized through these experiences that I wanted to help people learn and become accomplished. Later, I decided to student teach in graduate school. I taught three different writing courses over three years, including this past year as a part-time instructor. My philosophy of teaching is that a teacher should let students discover solutions in their own way. A teacher is someone who is there just to lead them in the right direction. It is rarely a good thing for a teacher to just provide an answer because often times this is of no help to the student.
