I think learning should be fun. If a student doesn't enjoy what she is doing, she won't likely attain mastery of the discipline. Moreover, I think students learn best by doing as opposed to being told what to do (i.e. practice as opposed to lecture and explanation). This means that I leave a lot of space for students to try things without fear of making mistakes. Evaluation (especially critical evaluation) is an important element in the later learning process, but initially the priorities should be placed upon fun, experimentation, praise, and lots and lots of practice.

As a Michigan resident, I was unable to find sny substantial work in the fiels of Social Work once I earned my BA degree. So, I worked in 3-4 school districts over a two year period before gaining full time work with the State. Eventually, in 2006 I lost my position with the state and again returned to substitute teaching. I enjoy young poeple and giving them a strong dose of encouragement even in brief one-day encounters. My knowledge of social science and behaviors has enabled me to realize a high rate of satisfaction and sucess with each student that I face. The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
