Interactive--listening to and learning from student to determine "where they're at". Then, posing questions to enable them to find their own beginning/solution/answers. If session doesn't find a promising beginning, start from a base and progress with them. Interaction prevents or indicates "going too fast" or overwhelming them--"the eyes" are engaged or indicate "shut-down". Making the math or education "mean something" provides a reason for learning or further developing the concepts. Encouragement and sincere compliments are very important. Sharing your own struggles or an "ah-huh" moment helps ease the role differences toward a comfortable, encouraging, learning relationship.

I have been a professional instructor pilot for 20 years teaching pilots from over 30 different countries in English and Spanish. I have a BS in Zoology, an MA in Information Management, and am working on an MS in Aeronautical Science. I have ten years grammar school, high school (AP), and college level Spanish and lived two years in Colombia South America as a Christian missionary. A Little Bit About Me...

In graduate school, I developed a management style, Egalitarian Leadership. The faculty encouraged me to submit my paper to Harvard Business School. Currently, I am writing a middle school age novel. Prior to this, I wrote a newspaper column for two years in California. I also score state proficiency tests for Pearson Educational Measurement, K-12.
It is my experience that an instructor delivers more learning when a student has an interest in the subject. "Inspire rather than require," has far greater efficacy in delivering information. I love to teach, and I believe my teaching style is very laid back. I like to allow my students to attempt things and try to figure it out with the information I provide. That way I know they are grasping the concepts. That is more important to me then speeding through a course just to get things done. I would be a failure if one of my students left my course not knowing exactly what they were doing. So I pride myself in slowing down if needed to ensure everyone is on the same page and can retain the information that is being taught to them.
