During my enrollment at the University of Arizona in Tucson, I tutored several students in advanced psychology courses as well as advanced English composition courses to undergraduates. I graduated from the University of Arizona with honors--a member of Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology and a memmber of Golden Key National Honor Society. After graduation, I tutored a high school student in geometry. Lately, I have been tutoring a fifth-grade student in math and reading. I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). Rather than stressing rote memorization, I believe it is more important to relate overall concepts in a "partnering" style. I am a second year UW Madison student pursuing a math degree. I have completed Calculus 1, Calculus 222, Calculus 234, Calculus 3 based engineering statistics, and Actuarial Science (a class designed to prepare actuarial students for the P exam). Teaching takes patience. I believe children need to be met where they are and taught according to their own talents and strengths. I have experience working with children who do not fit into mainstream classrooms. I have patience. I have energy. I have a great interest in discovering how each child learns best and then working with them based on those abilities.
