I graduated with a 3.35 QPA from Slippery Rock University in May of 2015! I have completed reading instructional courses in K-6th elementary education as well as courses in literature and reading assessment. My comments on tutoring Literature : Qualified in this subject by WyzAnt. As an avid reader of classic and modern literature, I am well versed in both American and European literature. At one time I obtained a bookmark from Barnes and Noble Bookstore which listed the 100 most admired works of literature. I had read 86 of those listed.

In my teaching, I make every effort to engage the attention of my students. While covering the subject at hand, I bring into my lessons references to a spectrum of other subjects when relevant such as historical context, cultural elements, literary allusions, modern and historical implications and facts and trivia relating to the subject which I believe will not only be of interest to the student but will also provide a more rounded appreciation of the benefits of a wide ranging education.
For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. I have acted as substitute teacher at the middle and high school levels for a total of 10 years, 8 of which were spent at 12 schools in Vermont and 2 at 10 schools in Hernando County FL. I held the position of Senior ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with a highly reputed language school in Vienna ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style focuses on modeled and guided discussions so that students can talk through their understanding so I can remediate and reteach to ensure that they are learning and they find confidence in their learning.
During my undergraduate, I had multiple field studies in middle and high school classes. I also had to tutor elementary students through my college for certain reading classes. During my last semester, I filled a permanent substitute position for 7th grade intensive reading. In the 2022-2023 school year, I taught STEM language arts for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember.I do and I get it.

The experience I have gained while studying Education and Psychology, along with administrating exams for Wonderlic Scholoastic Testing and tutoring has enabled me to learn through understanding, hard work and dedication. I have learned through extensive courses in Psychology on how we learn, education courses that break learning down, and working with children and adolescence for over ten years with tutoring and patience, that with the proper tools and guidance, anything can be achieved.
I believe that implementing the right tools, along with clearly stating what the student needs to learn, along with discussion, will ensure student success.Using multisensory resources, creatively using the newly formed knowledge, along with pre-testing will foster memory and recall.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught English as a second language and worked as an interpreter for an industrial firm after I received my B.A. degree. I have excellent command of math and science-related subjects as a licensed civil engineer. I prefer to teach students ranging from middle school to college. Dedication is what I expect from my students; I teach concepts and clarify ambiguities, and , in return, expect them to work hard to be able to apply what they learn.

Aaronsmom

I hate to be bored!!! I love fun, but I love learning all at the same time. So I try to make my teaching environment as pleasent and comfortable as ever. I do not like the monotonous flow of words; as it affects the learning experience. At MICO we were always taught to incorporate FUN, that appeals to the individual, in order for them to retain what was actually taught.
I have wanted nothing more, since a child, than to become a teacher. When I graduated from High School, in 2002, I immediately enrolled in our local Community College where I studied for 2 years and earned a Certificate in Early Childhood Education. Wanting a change of environment while I furthered my studies, I applied to and was accepted to one of the top Teacher's Colleges in the Caribbean, The MICO, where I obtained a Diploma in Secondary Education, specializing in Integrated Science, & Remedial Reading. I then ... read more

Patient, Engaging, Effective Tutor

I have tutored students in many subjects, including language arts, math, science, and reading. I have worked with students under NCLB and with FCAT (Florida's Comprehensive Assessment Test program). Some of my past students had learning disabilities, such as Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, or diagnosed as "Slow Learner." Several of these students were being medicated and were repeating at least one grade. I was able to help them with their educational needs. I have an extensive academic background, possessing AA, BA, and MA degrees. I have a reputation for high personal integrity and positive results. I believe that children need to find a reason to have a goal of being educated. Coming from a small town and having such a global perspective, I love helping children see their place in this vast world and that they are an important global citizen. I try to show them through energetic discovery, that all this "boring stuff" leads to much more interesting and and fun stuff. Children need to know that they are important assets to us all and that they are more than capable of over acheiving whatever they set out to do.
Studying French and Russian Studies at Stetson allowed me gain more than a grasp on those two languages, but insight to the cultures, an appreciation for and ability to interpret literature and poetry, a deeper understanding of history, geography, and politics as well as a desire to share all of this with others.

A Little Bit About Me...

I personally believe that all students should be treated equitably rather than equally. We as educators must realize that our students are individuals and deserve to be treated as so. We must realize certain techniques work for a few and not the entire group. It is our responsibility as educators to encourage our students to reach their potential and provide a safe learning environment in which to do so.

I have previous experience working at a private school in tampa as a classroom assistant. I also have experience tutoring primary and secondary students in reading and math.

A Little Bit About Me...

I would describe my teaching style as very patient and child-oriented. I believe I am good at meeting the child where he or she is at and then taking them to the next level quickly. I do not believe in wasting time if there is mastery of a subject and this includes being willing to devote more time to the true areas of difficulty. I am very praising and positive and believe in showing a child not just how to succeed in a sepcific subject but how to develop skills that will help them succeed in all areas including life!
I graduated in 1981 with a French Degree and proceeded to work in Community Centers and YMCA-type facilities doing program development, coaching, after-school and summer camp activities as well as hands-on childcare and some tutoring. I always loved working with kids and recently decided take things to the next level and become a teacher. I relish the idea of he ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My teaching style could best be described as democratic and socratic. I believe all teachers need to be well prepared for the classroom and ready to shift gears when a question might demand it. I believe that teaching and learning are one in the same. Teacher and student should be ready to teach and learn together. I am patient and willing to go as quickly or as slowly as needed. Students determine the pace, and delivery of instruction is based on the needs of the students.
I am a recently retired school teacher/administrator.
