I have worked for the past 13 years in accounting and management positions. I started in the Master of Education in the Teaching Arts at Mississippi College this past January and recieved by Class A Teacher's License in June of this year. I am certified to teach grades 4-8 in all four of the major subjects: math, science, social studies and language. I am also certified to teach grades 7-12 in the social studies area: US History, government, geography, and world history. I believe the first step in academic success is building self esteem and confidence. Learning should be engaging and fun. My students come to enjoy learning and gaining confidence as they grow and become better readers. I have taught first through third grades for many years. Most of my experience is with elementary students. I now work with principals and teachers across the state to improve classroom instruction. I have also worked specifically with third graders to prepare them for the State Test. Each summer I am involved with the Read to Succeed camp where I work with students who have not passed the third grade end of the year test. The students retake the test after our camp and the vast majority pass and are promoted to the fourth grade. My schedule is very flexible.

While studying at MC, I took the opportunity to live and study abroad in Costa Rica, where I learned most of my conversational Spanish. After graduating from Mississippi College with a bachelor's in Spanish and a certificate in TESOL, I lived abroad in Peru working for an orphanage. Upon returning to the States, I worked as an ESL and Spanish teacher at both middle school and high school level. When teaching a language, I believe one should not only have the knowledge of the grammar and syntax, but the skills of communication.
