My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : The past 25 years I have beenn teaching Reading, Language and Arts in the Oklahoma Public School System. I have a Reading Specialist Certificate and have taught small group interventions (5-6 students) which involved reinforcement with phonics skills: synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homonyms, pronunciation of letter sounds, identification of vowels,, consonants, vowel pals, and have worked a lot with English as a Second Language Students to help them learn the English language.

I spend a lot of time teaching small group interventions which focuses on the Reading Sufficiency criteria that is mandated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. When it comes down to my teaching style I believe that Vygotsky's Sociolinguistic theory just about sums it up because I believe that the best way for people in general to learn is by conversation. I believe that for students to really learn and comprehend a particular idea they must be be able to talk it through. Also, I believe that children learn better with a more kinesthetic approach. When the child has a chance to get themselves involved in it they are usually able to recall the information better.
