At Adult Basic and Literature Education, I serve as a math and grammar tutor in the GED and ESOL programs. Also, I assist the students on how to obtain basic computer techniques so that they can operate the computer. I am able to communicate with Spanish-speaking students and read French. As for my technical, web designing, and software knowledge, I have a background in computer troubleshooting, Adobe Photoshop, HMTL, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etcetera. For five years, I was a substitute teacher for grades K-5 in English as a Second Language, Special Education and Art classes. My teaching style is patient, relaxed, and supportive. I tend to tailor my methods to the needs and personality of the student.

I tutored students one-on-one and also taught writing workshops to groups of 3-6 students. If there is a topic I am unsure about, I will let you know up front. Punctual - prepared and professional. I look at learning rep. styles of students (pictorial, word or kinesthehic). I try to make the learning experience as painless as possible (especially math). I start with pre-tests to gauge where a student is at, then follow-up with teaching content and finish with a post-test to gauge learing objectives that have been met. I love teaching and enjoy the field of education. I believe all children can learn and succeed. I want to change the academic mindset of our children. I have encountered students that do not have the passion or desire to excel. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching, or the best teachers, are required to have a certain undertanding that not just anyone has. I think teaching is a decision that demands patience, excitement, encouragement, care, and the love of making the best students possible. Constructivist approaches to learning and inquiry based teaching, appreciating multiple intelligences, and methods of learning, are all part of my approach to teaching. Students have interests that vary and their interests may very well round out their desire to learn. I strive to make sure to it that my students take away something to learn every time that I see them.
As a driven student & business owner, I've had ownership stakes in different businesses. Educationally, I have had a natural love for mathematics (BS) & life sciences (short of minors in chemistry, physics, and biology). As my involvement in business increased while still in s ... read more

I consider myself a very energetic, competent tutor who considers teaching an art. I enjoy working with students to help them achieve their full potential. In many situations, the main reason that students struggle in learning and grasping certain academic subjects is due to the fact that students suffer a major disconnect with the course textbook on the subject. I consider it my job to bridge the gap between what the text is trying to communicate and what the student is retaining from the text. In working to close this gap, I often create my own learning aids that a student can understand. I delight in seeing students become excited about a subject matter as their initial fear gives way to a whole new understanding of the subject.
I have tutoring experience in mathematics at the secondary and high school levels. One example of tutoring at the secondary level was when I tutor ... read more

As a lifelong learner, I took on the challenge to complete my Bachelors and Masters degree after working as a professional musician for 15 years. My earlier undergraduate work combined music with a broadcast journalism minor. I have used those skills to write, as well as produce music , videos and edit for television. As a classroom music teacher and administrator, I used computer technology and the arts to teach reading, writing and math. During the past seven years, I have been a community mentor who tutored school age students in English, the arts as well as adults with GED prep.

A Little Bit About Me...

Learning is always easier when it is fun and interesting. In any given teaching situation I look for ways to add zest to learning. At the outset of tutoring I do an assessment of where students are currently achieving in a specific subject area, and identify skills that they may be lacking. Next, I develop a learning plan with specific goals. This becomes the basis for a learning contract between myself and the person seeking tutoring. Learning is best achieved in an interactive teaching style where students are encouraged to ask questions and participate in problem solving. I am a patient person who believes that all students can successfully learn.
My undergraduate years at Princeton University instilled in me a passion for learning and a personal commitment to academic excellence. Most of my adult work life has been focused on coaching individuals to overcome handicaps and maxi ... read more

Each person learns differently. Once I get to know the student, I adjust to their learning needs because I do believe that each person can learn. Yes it may take some longer but it can be achieved. My goal is to get the student to believe in what I am sharing and usually I do make a difference in their lives.I am available to the student based on needs, I am flexible, patient and very encouraging. I believe that boosting self confidence and offering alternate methods will increase or promote unerstanding and eventually learning.
As a graduate of Shortwood and Cleveland State I have worked in different aspects of Education. I believe in excellence & have always encouraged my students to achieve same.
