I fundamentally believe anyone can learn. If a student isn’t grasping a concept, it just means I have to change my style of teaching. I find working with children rewarding. I am patent and understanding and cater to individual learning styles. I use my artistic sense to help students visually understand learning. I believe the key to understanding and learning is to make learning fun and memorable. I'm a strong believer in constructivist learning and believe that children need to explore to learn. I started out working as a Head Start teacher's assistant and the following year I was promoted to Head Start teacher and manager. I have also worked as a 1:1 instructional assistant with a high needs student. Currently I worked in a behavior school as an instructional assistant, and I have stepped in to plan curriculum and teach all the classes because the teacher has been on paid leave this year. I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning. I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I am a Senior Computer Science major at Siena college; my programming experience covers a range of languages, although my strongest is Java. I am currently certified by CompTIA as an IT Technician (A+ Certification), and have built 5 personal desktops over the years for clients.
