Go ahead, Math my day. :)

For the 2011-2012 school year, I was a math tutor for Charles E. Nash Elementary school in Ft. worth/TX. In the evening and on weekend, I also tutor students in grade level ranging from 4th graders to college students. The most effective methods for teaching math to any students level is to make it relevant, connect math content to every days' life. We use math everyday and yet most of our youngster don't even realize that, especially when it comes to higher math level like calculus or even algebra. The basic foundation math skill is add/subtract/multiply/and divide and this essential skill must be mastered by the time you complete your 5th grade level. If this skill is not mastered, students will fall behind as he/she move on to the next grade level. During this period, these students are not motivated and you'll commonly hear them say things like, "I'm not good at math;" or "I hate mat ... read more

Math can lead to greater success.

I have experience tutoring elementary math, algebra, geometry, college algebra , and preparation for the ASVAB and SAT tests. While tutoring my students I not only explain the method in solving a math problem, but I also challenge them with leading questions. I want to ultimately help them to develop a process to efficiently work through a problem. Also, I have a strong desire for my students to succeed in passing their class. Finally, I am passionate about students reaching their goals in math and other areas of their life.
I use both tactile and working through examples to explain how to solve a problem. I like to break down the problems into smaller pieces and work each piece at a time. I also backtrack to previous related concepts to ensure understanding.

More About This Tutor...

My degree in Engineering has given me plenty of experience in math and science. I have also had graduate courses in Physics and Engineering. As a graduate student at UNT, I instructed several physics and astronomy labs and learned first hand what teaching can be like. I have since felt that teaching math and science is a career I want to pursue.
I have always had a passion for learning, and helping others learn. In middle school, High School and College, other students came to me for help with assignments. Knowing what it is like to be a student, I try to see from the students point of view. Each student teaches me their own way to learn. More About This Tutor...

I believe the true way to teach is to make a connection for each student: relate the material to something the student already knows. A more “hands-on” approach will allow the student to learn faster with greater retention. I feel that every student has the ability to learn, and that it is the teacher’s job to provide each student with the connection. In today’s age, classrooms have become over-crowded thus making it more difficult for the teacher to make that connection. It is the job of the tutor to fill in the gaps. With this theory, I try to use my experience in the work field to relate the subject matter to the student’s surroundings – hence math and science are my forte. I work well with children by making learning fun, but also have the knowledge of complex problems to provide the same environment for high school and college students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy the wonders of discovery and assisting others with master concepts and practical logic that helps them in every aspect of their lives. Tutoring is not so simply as to aid a child in finding the answer or getting a college student to pass the examine. It is truly the disciplined approach to knowledge and truth that allows one to branch into new facets of understanding and truth. To tutor means to assist another in seeking real truth and understanding that will allow success and confidence to build.

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from Stephen F Austin State University in 2006 with a B.S. majoring in both Mathematics and Chemistry. I also have 20 college hours in Physics as well as 16 college hours in Biology. The educational goals of the departments is that it is not enough to do well on exams and homework, a successful student must be able to communicate the ideas and information to people of various levels of familiarity with the material. With this in mind students were expected to present material to the classmates, schoolmates and faculty in seminars from research projects. In addition to this I possess over 3 years experience teaching adults in professional development programs.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and working with people of all ages. I believe that anyone can learn any subject at any age. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. Everyone learns differently so I develop more than one way to explain a topic until the pupil understands it.
From January 2004 to July 2005, I tutored at HOPE tutoring center for children in middle school. The subject I tutored was math. I then earned a bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University. I have learned extensive math skills to be able to tutor Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus and Calculus. Additionally, I am a native Spanish speaker and I can tutor conversational Spanish and Spanish grammar.
