I love helping students understand concepts that seem 100% foreign to them. I teach mostly geared towards visual learners. I tend to use visual and real life examples to push my students to grasp the concepts for themselves. I prefer to make them do the work and answer questions as we move forward. I do not believe students should just be given answers. They should be given the tools to answer the questions for themselves.
I have taught for 3 years at Sam Houston State University for the Department of Chemistry. As a high school student I tutored off and on for around 4 years. I am currently working on my Master's in chemistry at SHSU.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a Cougars graduated and I have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and minor in math graduating with A's in both areas. During college I tutored a lot of math courses from basic to upper level of calculus. I can speak a little Spanish and am fluent in Vietnamese
I love to work with children. I had 2 of my own. I believe children can learn if you show them the direct way; as a math or chemistry tutor I use some easy techniques that children can learn and remember by; but basically just show them by examples. Students come with various background and motivation levels and ways of learning. A tutor needs to be able to discover within the student the best way for that student to learn. I believe students should be pressed not to memorize facts but to use critical thinking skills, tying things together and seeing relations so a multitude of similar problems can be solved. There are many ways science can be taught. Over the years, I have found that tutoring works best by breaking the material down into mini lessons, give the students guided practice in solving problems (we solve it together), and then independent practice where the student demonstrates mastery of the concept.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with kids. I try to make things as simple as I can in hopes that the student will understand it. I think it is important to praise kids ( ex. good job) to boost their self esteem.
