My preferred style of teaching is student-lead. I believe in the Socratic method, but appreciate following a curriculum, as well. I volunteer at a Montessori school and I know that getting learners of all ages interested and excited about a topic is the key to retention. For the past two years, I have been teaching journal-writing and college classes at the Louisville Comprehensive Care MS Center. Prior to that, I have tutored students ages 7-40 in a various set of topics, primarily math and business subjects.

I believe in showing students the correct way to do the task at hand, and them coaching to explore the materials themselves. I believe that given the right tools and foundation even a academically unsuccessful student can excel. During the pursuit of my degrees I worked tirelessly to excel. While in school I volunteered as a tutor for the local Boys and Girls Club. I tutored middle school and high school students in literature, math, science and history. Due to my degree in Library Science I have extensive knowledge in writing term papers and research methods.

As a first generation immigrant, I have sharply experienced just how important proper communication skills are. Language, spoken and written are one of the most important parts of building those skills for young people, for success in both carreer and social life. I strongly believe that my own experience with constant learning and improving my language abilities helps me in better understanding of the learning process of others. Multiple personality assesments as well as my self-evaluation state me as a leader type indiavidual, competitive, influential, however also supportive and attentive as well. As a non paid experience I have been the helping hand for my friends struggling with their paper, proof reading and restructuring their writting during both highschool and college. The satisfaction that comes from working with a student, one on one, who is struggling, and seeing them change from angry and insecure to confident and proud is immense. I haven't found it anywhere else. As a teacher, my initial goal is to discover how to facilitate the individual learning styles of my students. I strive to instill a confidence that will lead to a willing and open mind conducive to further learning. I have been a playwright for the last ten years, which is why I chose to get my BA in writing. Being involved in extensive reading and writing programs in and out of school has given me a deep appreciation for words. Over the course of my education, I was fortunate enough to tutor several young students struggling with reading and writing, as well as weekly creative writing workshops with elementary students.
