My comments on tutoring Reading : I have not taught reading specifically, outside of my own child (she has very high reading scores), but reading is a great passion of mine, and I believe that I would be excellent at tutor this subject.

I am a fan of the Socratic method of teaching, where students are led to an understanding of the material through a series of questions designed to help them think their own way to the answer.
I have significant experience teaching and tutoring over the past 15 years, from the time I began college and was a lab assistant during chemistry labs, through supporting myself through college by tutoring, and finally teaching numerous college and university courses over the last 10 years. I enjoy working with kids of all a ages and skill levels! My passion is working with kids who are special education, or those who need more one on one time. I have never been a teacher, but I can speak from a student's perspective. A good teacher is the one that identifies the needs of a student. Challenging the mind is very important, but also showing respect, patience and serious willingness to help. Practice is essential for a student to learn.
