First, I must say that I am not only a Spanish native speaker (born and raised in Mexico), but I also have a double degree (undergraduate) in Spanish and Psychology, and a Masters in Spanish. Additionally, I worked for almost two decades as a Spanish radio host, and I also have more than four years of tutoring experience (corporative and private). I tutor students in many subjects, particularly Spanish at all levels, and basic math, reading and writing. Among my studentes, there are children from 8 to 12 years of age, high school and college students, and adults who wish to learn a second language (English, Spanish).

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching for over 4 years now. I received my certification from DePaul University in Secondary Education Social Sciences. I am also endorsed to teach Arabic; a language I've studied for over 10 years. Since graduating from DePaul University in 2010, I have worked at a Chicago Public School located in the Northside. A Little Bit About Me...

As an Adjunct Professor in Humanities at Prairie State College for the past 5 years, I have acquired a wide variety of teaching skills at the College Level. In addition, since my undergraduate work I have always tutored in various departments, Mathematics calculus and college algebra. Generally, I'm a constructivist, and I believe the best method of tutoring is providing a completely individuated scaffold for any student. While I was raised in old-school education, I believe that some of the newer techniques of education through hands-on, the use of digital technology, and through writing across the curriculum are effective for many students.
I have two bachelor degrees, one in computer science, the other in mathematics with a type 09 cert (6-12). I belong to Mensa and the NCTM, and have excellent English and decent Spanish speaking and writing skills. I have taught and tutored in mathematics and computer science for quite awhile, and I earned a 95% on my PSAT and a 32 on my ACT.

I encouraged students to find their “writers’ voice.” My goal was and still is to enable students to become more independent writers. This means that I helped my students to not only be able to report data and facts about their topics, but also interpret and explain why the topic is important to them. I especially love working with elementary students in the areas of reading, spelling or language arts. I usually can help a student improve their reading grades, and help them to decode new words. I also like teaching ESL because it gives me a broader concept of the world outside the U.S. I really enjoy learning about new cultures.
