My comments on tutoring Literature : At the University of Texas at Austin, I was a Literature major and still read daily for enjoyment and edification.

I have joyfully taught students in grades 1 through 5 in Los Angeles urban schools, and in the suburbs of Plano. I have also been a Literacy Coach, assisting teachers in grades kindergarten through fifth to enhance their teaching skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, phonics, etc. - all areas of literacy. I have worked one-on-one and in small groups with "at-risk" students to pin-point their areas of weakness and fill in the gaps. In addition, as a Literacy Coach, I have conducted numerous professional development sessions for teachers in grade levels from kinder through fifth grade. I have a Bachelors in English Literature w/a certificate in Technical Writing from the University of North Texas. I have put myself through school by working as server part-time. This has given me a great deal of patience. I have experience as an office manager for an apartment locator, and I have tutored my friends through their English courses.
I have no set style of teaching. I try to understand how to benefit the individual by examining their needs. Then, we go from there. Some students need an analytical approach, so the material can best be presented as a formula. Others need a creative approach. It really just depends on the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

A third generation teacher, working with kids is in my blood. In college, many teachers and peers commented on my ability to break down a large or complicated issue into manageable, easy-to-digest ideas. Now, as I tackle scary grammar issues or the dense analysis of irony in a plot, I thrive on the "lightbulb" look on my students' faces when I have finally made something click.
