I was working on a PhD at Louisiana State University, however I realized that I was much happier teaching than doing research and I accepted this teaching position at Southeastern. While studying to obtain my two bachelor degrees, a BS in Biomedical Science and a BA in Chemistry, I have had many opportunities to develop my leadership, interpersonal, and tutoring skills. I was involved in several organizations at Texas A&M University that incorporated tutoring experiences and also worked for the university tutoring student-athletes. My Physics class had the chance to work with machinery used in vocational careers. I also taught Teacher Cadets, a class for students interested in the field of Education. During the last six-weeks students completed a student teaching experience working with K-12 teachers. My physics students competed in several engineering contests, (paper airplane, egg drop, rubber band car, etc.) which provided several students scholarships. My biology class did soil testing for the local citizens. These are a couple of examples I utilize in my classroom. I want my students to understand the material, not just memorize it. I use an assortment of activities and hands-on techniques to achieve this objective.
