My Physics class had the chance to work with machinery used in vocational careers. I also taught Teacher Cadets, a class for students interested in the field of Education. During the last six-weeks students completed a student teaching experience working with K-12 teachers. My physics students competed in several engineering contests, (paper airplane, egg drop, rubber band car, etc.) which provided several students scholarships. My biology class did soil testing for the local citizens. These are a couple of examples I utilize in my classroom. I want my students to understand the material, not just memorize it. I have twenty years experience teaching biology, environmental science, anatomy and physiology and other life sciences. I was working on a PhD at Louisiana State University, however I realized that I was much happier teaching than doing research and I accepted this teaching position at Southeastern. I would like to return to teaching at a community college rather than do research or teach at a large four year institution. I have always derived great satisfaction from the success of my students.
