A Little Bit About Me...

After serving in the US Army as a Russian Voice Interceptor, and raising a family, I returned to university. My military experience instilled in me a great amount of self discipline and motivation, and raising three small boys taught me great amounts of patience. I obtained a Master's in English from Kent State while teaching composition and literature classes and then went on to the Ph D program at UNCG where I completed all requirements but the dissertation. My approach to tutoring is to try to be as hands-off as possible. By this I mean that I will not "fix" papers, nor will I write directly on a student's paper if it can be helped. I want to help the student in their problem areas by showing them examples of an area (thesis statement, grammar, citations)that needs improvement and then working with them so that they will know how to address the problem in the future. In order to teach I know I must teach in many different styles.
