I generally work through an example while explaining. Then as the student works the problems, I instruct by asking prompting questions with decreasing frequency until the student can complete problems without any assistance. While completing my degree, I worked in the math department as a tutor. I often had several students with various subjects simultaneously. It was a challenge to constantly switch topics, but I apparently did it so well that I almost had a regular class that showed up every time I was on duty. Several students told me that I explained things on a level they could understand as opposed to the high-level language the professor used.
I have also done private tutoring since then.

I have never believed in or practiced the lecture as a form of instruction. Rather I apply a program of hands-on repetition, a "walk me through it" approach whereby the student demonstrates what has been retained and understood and where we need to apply some more time. I continually review what has been learned so everything stays current and fresh in the mind. I have found that most students retain more when humor is interjected through the instruction period and how what has been learned is applied to every day life. Praise and commendation of a job well done is vital to the continued interest of a student. I have never met anyone who has not responded positively to praise. As a business professional I was continually called upon to make presentations to corporate personnel, owners, propert management personnel, and other interested parties. I made these presentations interestin

I enjoy the wonders of discovery and assisting others with master concepts and practical logic that helps them in every aspect of their lives. Tutoring is not so simply as to aid a child in finding the answer or getting a college student to pass the examine. It is truly the disciplined approach to knowledge and truth that allows one to branch into new facets of understanding and truth. To tutor means to assist another in seeking real truth and understanding that will allow success and confidence to build. I have a passion for language and rhetoric. Words, truth, knowledge, and exploration have marked my academic career. I studied with two colleges during my Associate years in order to obtain lessons in Japanese. I took my passion for language into history with pursuits in Latin and Greek while attending the College of Saint Thomas More. I have offered consistent and helpful tutoring to y

I believe the true way to teach is to make a connection for each student: relate the material to something the student already knows. A more “hands-on” approach will allow the student to learn faster with greater retention. I feel that every student has the ability to learn, and that it is the teacher’s job to provide each student with the connection. In today’s age, classrooms have become over-crowded thus making it more difficult for the teacher to make that connection. It is the job of the tutor to fill in the gaps. With this theory, I try to use my experience in the work field to relate the subject matter to the student’s surroundings – hence math and science are my forte. I work well with children by making learning fun, but also have the knowledge of complex problems to provide the same environment for high school and college students. As a child of an Air Force pilot, I have alway
